Benefits of Physical Therapy

Physical therapy exercise.

Physical Therapists and Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments. Manipulation is used to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event, such as falling, repetitive stress, motor vehicle accidents, or even sitting without proper back support.

Chiropractic  is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints,  bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons.  It is sometimes used in conjunction with conventional medical  treatment. A chiropractor first takes a medical history, performs a physical examination, and may use lab tests or diagnostic imaging to determine if treatment is appropriate for your musculoskeletal pain. The treatment plan may involve one or more manual adjustments and physical therapy specific to the patient's condition.

Blood pressure check by healthcare provider.

The therapist or doctor may manipulate the joints, using a controlled, sudden force to improve range and quality of motion. Many chiropractors also incorporate nutritional counseling and exercise/rehabilitation into the treatment plan. The goals of chiropractic care include the restoration of function and prevention of injury in addition to musculoskeletal pain relief.

Physical therapy, spinal manipulation and chiropractic care is generally considered a safe, effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain, the type of sudden injury that results from MVA (motor vehicle accident), moving furniture or getting tackled. Research has also shown chiropractic to be helpful in treating neck, back pain, musculoskeletal pains and headaches. In addition, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia may respond to the moderate pressure used both by chiropractors and practitioners of deep tissue palpation and other modalities.

Stretches and exercises

Pain treatment can also be accomplished through physical therapy and chiropractic care. Physical Therapy (PT) involves the treatment, healing, and prevention of injuries or disabilities. PT helps to relieve pain, promote healing, and restore function and movement. How Is Physical Therapy Used to Treat Pain? A Chiropractor or Physical Therapist may focus on decreasing pain with either passive or active therapy. Examples of passive physical therapy include:

  • Heat/Ice packs
  • TENS Unit / EMS
  • Ultrasound

Active therapies include stretching, exercise, gait training and many more. Please give us a call for a proper consult.
